CONGRATULATIONS TO MEDC MEMBERS THAT COMPLETED 96 HOURSE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH THE U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO GRADUATE FROM THE INSTITUTE OF ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT

Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) Had Three Members Graduate from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organization Management

ATHENS, GA (8/14/2013) – Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) had three members graduate from the Institute of Organization Management (IOM) this summer. IOM is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  The program requires completion of 96 hours of training that enhances individual performance, elevates professional standards, and recognizes association, chamber of commerce, and other nonprofit professionals who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of nonprofit management. 

IOM requires participants to sit through four – five day long sessions that are taught by university professors, industry experts, and leading practitioners in the chamber and association industries.  These sessions include course instructions and engage in lively discussion that aims to educate participants on all facets of running a nonprofit organization.  Advocacy, media training, membership, finance, and legal issues human resources are a few of the topics covered to best train and educate these participants. 

Valencia Williamson, Vice President, Chamber of Commerce, Area Development Partnership; Emily Pickering, Director, Chamber of Commerce, Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce; and Ling Burch, Membership Services Representative, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce graduated from IOM June 28, 2013.
