Deals of the Year Award

Overview

The Deals of the Year Award honors exceptional economic development projects in the state of Mississippi that achieve community economic development goals and involve significant community support such as financial assistance, permitting assistance, workforce development; state financial support, etc. An economic development project will be defined as an initiative that generates new job opportunities and boost economic prosperity for a Mississippi community.

This award recognizes outstanding achievements in locating or expanding businesses that drive economic growth and prosperity in our communities.

This award will recognize up to three MEDC members from small, medium, and large communities who achieved a significant economic development project. Each category will have one designated winner. This award will allow opportunities to honor not only the primary recipient, but also recognize the supporting team members, organizations, and/or private sector partners who drove the project’s success.

The Deals of the Year Awards will recognize developers and key partners who successfully secure significant deals across diverse communities, encompassing various sizes, character, and target markets.

Criteria

Deals of the Year Award recognizes the outstanding achievement in the location and expansion business in the state of Mississippi.

Award categories will be organized by three size communities:

I.) Small – Population of 30,000 or less
II.) Medium – Population of 30,001 – 60,000
III.) Large – Population of over 60,000

Eligibility

Only current MEDC members are eligible to submit entries. Eligible projects must have been announced within the current or previous fiscal year for the organization submitting the entry. Not a member of MEDC? You can Join Here!

Nomination Process

MEDC members may submit a nomination. Completed nominations must include the submission of the entry form, supplemental information, and photographs. The judges may request additional information from the nominating organization as required.

Judging Criteria

Awards will be evaluated on two key criteria:

  1. Economic Impact: The project’s significance and benefits to the community.
  2. Complexity and Expertise: The level of skill, creativity and challenge to overcome to secure the deal.

Awards Ceremony

The Deals of the Year Awards will be presented at the MEDC Awards Luncheon that will be held on February 6, 2025 at the Westin Hotel in Jackson, MS.
