Are you or someone you know an outstanding female in economic development?
Nominate an outstanding female economic developer by Friday, August 7th, for a chance to receive the 2026 Brenda Hardaway Lathan Scholarship for Women in Economic Development. This award supports women pursuing continued education in economic development, with a focus on, but not limited to, minority practitioners. Self-nominations are accepted. The winner will be honored during the MEDC Legislative Conference on November 5, 2026 at the Sheraton Flowood Refuge Hotel & Conference Center in Flowood, MS.
Policy
Nominations for Brenda Hardaway Lathan Scholarship for Women in Economic Development may only be submitted by an active MEDC member. The nominator must submit a completed nomination form by the designated deadline.
Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee appointed by MEDC in consultation with the sponsoring organization(s). Following the review process, one scholarship recipient will be selected annually.
The Executive Director of MEDC will notify the scholarship recipien in writing and invite them to attend the MEDC Legislative Conference, where they will be recognized during the Awards Luncheon. A copy of the notification will also be provided to the sponsoring organization(s).
Amenities and Responsibilities of each party are as follows:
MEDC PROVIDES:
Up to four (4) complimentary luncheon tickets.
One (1) registration fee for the conference where the member is being honored.
Award/plaque.
SPONSORING ORGANIZATION PROVIDES:
Hotel accommodations
Additional luncheon tickets at their discretion.
Recipient photo and bio for conference materials
AWARDEE PROVIDES:
Mileage/transportation expenses
